OUR HISTORY

In June of 1989, Pastor David Norman was appointed as the pastor of a new United Methodist Church in Ashburn, Va. The church began meeting in the Ryan United Methodist Church building. Ryan Church was the church home of about 10 families. At this beginning point, the church was without a name but had a vision. The vision was to begin worshiping at Broad Run High School on Sunday, Sept. 10, 1989. On that opening day, 80 people gathered for worship.

In those beginning months, the name Ashburn United Methodist Church was chosen. And in just nine months the church had grown by 50 percent. On June 3, 1990, the new church was chartered with 120 charter members.

The developers of Ashburn Farm graciously donated the five-acre parcel of land on which the Crossroads campus now sits. In March 1992 the first phase of the building was ready for occupancy and on March 15, 1992, the first worship celebration was held and the building was consecrated to God.

In February 1996 the church broke ground once again for an additional 19,000 square foot addition. On Nov. 24, 1996, the additional space was ready for use and was consecrated to God.

In 2002 the leadership discerned that a change of name was in order. The new name was to be Crossroads United Methodist Church. This name seems more fitting to the vision to not identify the church with a building but with a mission to be out in the world making a difference in the name of Jesus.

In 2006, the church remodeled its sanctuary so that the space could be used for other purposes besides worship celebrations: seminars, mission activities, and events matching the unique nature of kids and teens.

Crossroads is a church that touches thousands of individuals each month and averages 600-plus at two worship celebrations weekly.
